Cheap options, rich valuations: a quiet market that rewards buying protection
Add Portfolio Protection. Markets look calm on the surface, but the valuation picture argues for caution.

Justification
Markets look calm on the surface, but the valuation picture argues for caution. Stock prices relative to earnings sit higher than roughly 74 out of every 100 months since 2006. The 10-year Treasury yield has dropped 0.17 percentage points over two weeks, which eases pressure on borrowers but signals growth uncertainty. The VIX, Wall Street's fear gauge, is 17.3 โ below its one-year average of 18.1 โ making protective put options relatively cheap right now. Use that low volatility to buy downside protection on positions most exposed to stretched valuations.
