Rates Wrote the Script Again โ Sell the Ceiling at 5.26%
October 1, 2026 at 9:03 AM EDT
Justification
The market is calm on the surface but quietly expensive, and a sharp rate move has tipped the posture one notch more defensive. The VIX (a gauge of expected volatility) sits at 16.3 โ well below 20 โ which keeps option premium thin and makes selling calls the better income play than buying them. The 10-year Treasury yield has surged 28 basis points over the last 10 sessions to 5.26%, compressing equity valuations; the forward P/E (price relative to next year's earnings) of 19.1 sits in the caution zone. Watch Healthcare and Consumer Staples, today's two worst sectors, for signs of capitulation before adding exposure there.
