🔮 Establish Protective Positions
Extreme Fear Meets Stretched Valuations — Options Are Cheap, Use Them

Justification

Stocks look calm on the surface, but the underlying picture argues for caution. The Fear & Greed Index sits at 23, deep in extreme-fear territory, even as the S&P 500 recovered slightly today. Stock valuations are richer than roughly 77% of all months since 2006, leaving little cushion if earnings disappoint. The VIX, Wall Street's fear gauge, is 18.4 — below 20, which makes protective put options relatively cheap right now. Add a layer of downside protection on positions before this week's earnings and macro calendar can shift the mood.

Since the Last Issue

  • Fear & Greed Index moved from 28 to 23 since the prior issue, deepening into extreme-fear territory.
  • VIX rose from 17.5 to 18.4 since the prior issue, reversing last issue's calm reading.
